Coxswain Leadership Camp
Now in its 5th year, The 9th Seat Coxswain Leadership Camp is ready to ramp up another exciting summer just for coxswains. My goal is the same which is to create the best, most knowledgeable, and enjoyable summer camp experience where coxswains are the main focus. This is the kind of summer camp that I would have wanted to attend when I was in high school. This is going to be your chance as a coxswain to learn about the sport of rowing on your terms from the rower's perspective.

*Coxswain Leadership camp is a co-ed camp open to high school aged athletes 13-19 years old.

Come prepared to learn outside of the coxswain seat. There are many skills to practice that will better prepare you to make the best decisions while on the water. It is my belief that the best coxswains are the ones who want to be known as a teammate first, an athlete second and a coxswain third. There are nine seats in an 8+ that combine into one in order to make that boat as fast as it can be. This camp will help you be that 9th seat who makes a difference in boat speed.
The 9th Seat Coxswain Leadership Camp will take place in Seattle at the University of Washington's Conibear Shellhouse. Campers will get a glimpse of what it is like to train in a Division I athletics facility.
Campers will be staying on the University of Washington's Campus in either Haggett Hall. Meals, which are included within the camp fee, will take place in McMahon Hall's dinning facility, The 8. There will be camp staff supervision at all times. Summer temperatures for the Pacific Northwest are on average in upper 70's. Fans will be available for each athlete if they need their rooms cooler at night. All dorm rooms are wired with ethernet so an ethernet cable is recommended. Common areas have wireless internet. Bedding and towels are included.
Sample Camp Schedule
- 7:30am--Breakfast at McMahon Hall
- 8:15am--Meet to walk down to Conibear Shellhouse (10-15 min. walk)
- 8:30am--Morning round table discussion/focus of the day
- 9:00am--Coxswain training
- Noon--Lunch up at McMahon Hall
- 2:00--Audio review
- 3:00pm--Rowing specific training
- 6:00pm--Dinner at McMahon Hall
- 7:30pm--Evening Activity: Audio review, team building, leadership talks
What to Bring?
- A recording example of your coxing. This can be either a race recording or a practice piece. The format can be a digital recorder, on your phone, GoPro, or online.
- Workout clothes: we will be working out twice a day. Running shoes, socks, shorts, spandex shorts/pants, long sleeve fleece as it does get chilly in the mornings
- Water Bottle
- Waterproof Jacket
Payments can be made in full via check or online payment through Regatta Central. Paying in installments is possible! Refunds will be available until June 1st minus registration fees.
